the weekend through photos

The Mister and I were so extremely busy this weekend. Friday was spent with Katie and Clayton. Saturday was spent with my family and some of our friends from our hometown. Sunday was spent with the Mister’s family. Geeze it wore me out. Sunday was my sister’s 21st birthday! I cannot believe she is finally able come out to some of the bars and concerts with me. As well as Allison’s birthday dinner, the Mister and I had a party to attend at Hawkins. My little brother and his baby doll of a girlfriend, Kaitlyn, decided to come with us to the party. We had a blast, and I finally got to have some time with my jet setting friend Andi before she left again for world traveling.

happy birthday

Today is Adam (Alyson’s boyfriend) and Will’s birthday. I am still in shock that my baby brother is now 18 years old. He is officially a man and making sure the world knows that he is not a kid anymore. Will is one of the most interesting and charming individuals out there. You will be annoyed to the death by him. However in an instance, the kid man charms you like Eddy Haskell. Will is a natural comedian. He has on several occasions made me laugh until my face hurt from smiling. He also does not know how to practice modesty (see photo below of Will checking himself out in a mirror off in the distance while Allison is talking), but then again I do not think any of my parent’s children are lacking in the self-esteem department. Anyway, sending him wish birthday wishes this morning was a little heart-breaking. I still look at him as this adorable little monster full of energy and life, not a 6’1 energetic man. He was constantly making us laugh growing up and talked non-stop. He is the baby of the family and lives up to every stereotype associated with being the baby. This weekend after was not only a celebration for the Moms out there, but also my little brother’s birthday. We had his favorite foods: red beans and rice along with shrimp jambalaya. He picked out an ice-cream cake to hold his candles as he made a wish. Will seemed to get all the gifts that he asked for and for the sake of sanity, Allison, Will and I got along. (This is a rare event. Most times my parents have to give a lecture before any dinner party because we still pick on each other like we are 10.)Gifts were opened and then it was time to begin our family tradition of arcade games for money. My older brother, Drew, and Will constantly play ping-pong, pool, foosball, pac-man, air hockey…whatever is in my parents’ basement for cash money. It always starts the same: one dollar bets soon become two or more dollar bets which slowly move into bets if they get a certain amount of points in 10 seconds and so forth. Oh, and some how Will always ends up with his shirt off. Truthfully, I think he would walk around in public with just his boxers on if he could.Happy birthday Kelso! You are definitely one in a million.

mama’s day

Like most people, (except Mexicans, their Mother’s day was Tuesday) I celebrated Mother’s day Sunday with three different mama’s in my family. My Gma was there with her daughter, my mom, and my sister-in-law was there with her son, Porter. I was so happy Tiff got to celebrate Mother’s day this year because of Drew and her struggle. My family did the usual gift exchange for the Mamas. Then we just sat around talking about what has been going on with each other and cooing at my adorable nephew. I think it is safe to say that I am smitten with Porter. I am going to be that aunt who feeds him mountains of sugar for hours and then gives him back to his parents to deal with. I cannot wait!

after 21 no more Easter baskets

April 26, 2011 § Leave a comment

I have a big family. So the Holidays get really expensive for my parents. My mom decided to start this rule that after you turn 21, you no longer get Easter baskets. Needless to say, I was really disappointed when my mom stayed true to her word, even for my sister that is not even 21 yet. However, when the Mister and I headed to his family’s house for dinner, I was overcomed with joy when I saw that the Mister and I got a basket! I know this is really childish, but I love Cadbury eggs, chocolate bunnies and jelly beans. I suppose I am just a big kid. There is one thing that gets on my nerves with Easter baskets though, the green plastic grass stuff. It is so annoying trying to get all the jelly beans and lose candy free from the grass stuff. My sister and I always had the hardest time getting our candy and like children, complained to my mom. It was like my parents were making me work to get junk food! Haha. Oh, of all the worries in the world, my candy stuck in Easter grass was my biggest concern as a child. If only life was still like that.

Today marks the birth of my wonderful Mister 20-something years ago. I have had the joy of literally growing up with him. It has been filled with joy, amusement and lots of love. I cannot wait to see what the future holds for him.  Here is to many more years of birthday celebration.

International Women’s Day

Today, I celebrate being a woman. Today, I am excited that I have the chance to go to school, to vote or wear whatever outfit my heart desires. Today, I am thankful that I can be a SAHM or a career woman. It is not about feminism to me. It is about loving the body, soul and mind I have because I am a woman.

“I can rub & scrub this old house til it’s shinin like a dime
Feed the baby, grease the car, & powder my face at the same time
Get all dressed up, go out and swing til 4 a.m. and then
Lay down at 5, jump up at 6, and start all over again
‘Cause I’m a woman! W-O-M-A-N, I’ll say it again”
